Our Patient Participation Group

We are a small group of patients who have been invited to work on your behalf to ensure improved communication between you the patients and the practice.

The Practice Doctors are always seeking to improve the services they offer and their contact with patients.

We formed in 2006 to discuss the development of our purpose built premises. Our Patient Group is now a platform for your questions and suggestions. We will pass your ideas on and ensure the patients’ collective voice contributes to the continuous improvement of services at the surgery. The PPG meets every quarter.

Look out for our notice board in the waiting room which will give the latest PPG news.

There is a suggestion box available in the waiting room. We look forward to hearing from you. Please make use of this facility which will enable us to work on your behalf.

Please be assured that all matters will be treated as confidential.

Our Patient Forum Group meeting dates are:

  • Thursday 3rd August 2023, 6:15pm – 7pm
  • Thursday 9th November 2023, 6:15pm – 7pm

Joining the Group

We are keen to encourage patient participation from young people, workers, retirees, people with long term conditions and people from non-british ethnic groups. So please do join in as we really value your input.

Practice Engagement

In 2022 the Doctors gave a talk to the local out of school club children aged 4-11 years old explaining the roles of a Doctor, Nurse and primary care staff. The Children got to ask lots of questions and was an engaging session.

In July 2022 the Practice held a Resuscitation (CPR) awareness session for patients of the Practice. The feedback from the session:

‘It provided everybody who attended with the basic skill of how to try and save a life under different circumstances’.

‘Instructions were clear and effective. Learning was checked at each stage’. Although I have previously trained in CPR I realised how much I had forgotten’.

‘Thank you to Dr Hafiz for his training and time and thank you for Oak Glen Surgery for organising the event for us all’

In 2020 the Practice started to offer e-Consultations for patients. This is an accessible online form for none urgent medical concerns. Patients can access this service via the website under the ‘Appointments’ Tab and ‘E-consults Service’ Tab. We discussed this service again in 2021 at the Patient Participation Group meeting to raise awareness of how to access this alternative way of contacting a Clinician.

In April 2019 the Practice supported the local primary school with the event ’50 things to do before you’re 5′. Two GPs attended the  school to support this worth while event and promotional material was placed in the Practice waiting rooms.

In 2018 two PPG members volunteered to trial the Evergreen self-care app, an alternative app to use instead of Systmonline.

In 2018 a PPG volunteer provided the Pre-diabetic X-pert sessions and post Pre-diabetic support sessions for patients. These were valuable sessions for the patients registered at the Practice.

You said, We did

In 2021 the Practice received several compliments from patients about the way the in which our Covid clinics were organised. We appreciate patient feedback as this will help us arrange are future clinics for Flu season during September – December time.

To further tackle Did Not Attend appointments – the Practice has placed further notices around the Practice, added a DNA message on the Prescriptions and revised DNA letters to Patients.

To promote the Patient Participation Group – the Practice devised a PPG leaflet and this has been placed in the waiting rooms and self-care assessment room.

To add Nurse appointments to the online appointment booking service – we created online blood appointments for patients to book into.
